Douglas Taylor Elementary (a Chicago Public School)
9912 S. Avenue H
Chicago, IL 60617
Douglas Taylor Elementary is a national award winning public elementary school. Principal Dr. William Truesdale, in conjunction with his team of teachers and parents, has created a unique bond with the community. A school that was once underachieving is now recognized as a high-achieving school. As such, it is eligible to receive students from underachieving schools, but its location on the far south side of Chicago means that few take advantage of this opportunity. Taylor Elementary is located in a high poverty neighborhood. Ninety-seven percent of its students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.
During his tenure, Dr. Truesdale is building a common vision that all students can achieve outstanding academic excellence in the core subject areas:
- Reading
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
His mission is to create an environment that encourages the maximum intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of each individual. Dr. Truesdale believes I AM 4 Kids is a vital part of achieving that mission.
